Anyone metro NYC or Philly interested in a USAWA-spec heavy lift bar? My welder just told me that he can pay $250 for an 8-foot piece of 1-15/16" cold rolled 10/45 steel, or he can pay $450 and get a 24-foot length. I spec'ed mine at 8 feet since I think that's plenty long enough to hold whatever I'm going to lift.

If anyone is interested in going in on this with me, just holler. The welder I found is great, just charging me a few bucks to weld on the hooks, giving me the steel at cost, and he seems excited to be making something that might someday be used in a competition.

If you have no idea what a heavy lift bar is, it's got a permanent hook in the center and is used by the AWA (All-Round Weightlifting Association) in several lifts like the hip lift and hand-and-thigh lift where people move upwards of 2,000 lbs - yikes!

Thanks.
