I have committed myself to the practice of timed nasal breathing between sets of swings and getups.  Tonight was my third workout and I like it.  I am already getting more relaxed in my throat.

Question: When I take in nasal breaths between sets, am I supposed to restrict my breathing to my belly, or initiate my breath into my belly and then fill my chest after my belly feels full?  I feel like I am only taking in half a breath.

Dave,

The motivation for the question is due to recent reading I have done about how breathing high up into the chest is " panic" breathing.  I now understand that we are naturally supposed to belly breath, and that has a relaxation response to the body and mind.  But, in the case of difficult exercise, I wondered if breathing up into the chest, even after initially breathing down into the belly, would still have that same panic type response.
