Been trying this out for a couple of workouts, is actually more difficult than the conventional method, not sure if it is as effective or what other pro/cons might arise.

Might be better to link the second video. The first one is a pretty tentative look at the movement while the second is certainly not polished, but definitely a lot tighter.
When I was experimenting, I was pulling the off arm back hard - definitely creating rotation. The "press back" movement that @North Coast Miller is showing sure looks cleaner.
I'll keep at it for a few and report back. One thing I noticed straight off once I tightened it up was my KB hand has zero tendency to internally rotate at the bottom.
At the top there is a more pronounced lat/tri contraction.
Definitely more of a grind, momentum impulse is reduced coming out of the hike. Is enough to get the arm horizontal without any help from the delt, but not much float either.
