I've recently taken an interest in a lot of Stu McGill's concepts on back safety in lifting performance. However, I don't fully understand what is meant by the "lifter's wedge."

Is that just a matter, as Pavel has discussed before, of staying tight during the lift or is there more to this technique than that?

Thanks.

the wedge is literally figuring out how to "wedge" yourself between the ground and the weight

Think of a kick where you fall forward (fall through to the front foot)

Think of a kick where you get pushed backward by trying to kick something

Now think of a kick where you wedge yourself between the ground and the object you are trying to kick - you stay rooted and the "thing" you were going to kick goes flying backward
