What music do you listen to when you train?

Music is something that compels my attention, so I can't really listen to music while doing another activity.

I often train with the television on, especially sports events, but I'm only watching between sets.

Last night, I did heavy club while listening to Pat Flynn and Dan John.
I once trained with heavy clubs with an episode of Seinfeld on. I was doing double (a club in each hand) parallel circles with 25lb clubs.

It didn't go well.

@Steve Freides :
Here are two threads: Off-Topic - Music Whilst Training and Off-Topic - Music vs No music

I prefer listening to more "laid-back" music while training, especially AXE type training.

For me this is HipHop (especially Nas and Jack Harlow), Reggae, Alt Folk, and Country. Sometimes classical/baroque (especially J.S. Bach). This type of stuff keeps me in the zone.

Sometimes rock music or dancehall/ragga when I feel like I need a little push.

When I'm on my C2 rower, I like to watch sports or a movie during a long row. I did my best half marathon on the rower watching Quadrophenia a few years ago.

When strength training in my garage, I just have the songs on my phone on shuffle and get a good dose of most genres of rock, jazz and classical music. I don't really need a certain type of music to get me motivated...I use caffeine for that.

I like listening to real proggy stuff during my practice lately. I feel it allows me to remain calm and really zone into what I'm doing with the kettlebells. Lately that's been a lot of Opeth, Elder, Tool, Plini, etc. If I need a real push of adrenaline though, I throw on Pantera's Walk. Never fails to amp you up.
If you like proggy heavy stuff like Elder and Tool I highly recommend the album PetroDragonic Apocalypse by King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. My second favorite album of the year. Their other albums are all different styles.

PDA is their only proggy metal album. But Infest the Rats Nest is classic thrash metal and my favorite pure metal album since Metallica's and Pantera's prime.

Caught Elder live earlier this year, highly recommend. They killed it.

OH man, super jealous. I have yet to see Elder play live. Just recently got into them and I think their Innate Passage album is one of the best records put out in recent years. I will definitely check out PetroDragonic Apocalypse. I'm a casual Gizzard fan and still need to do the deep dive on their music. Flying Microtonal Banana and Butterfly 3000 were both excellent (albeit very different) albums that I've listened to from them.

Used to be podcasts. But not so much anymore. Comedy podcasts aren’t great as I don’t want to laugh while benching. Political podcasts aren’t great because I just get angry. With History or Science I get distracted because I want to know what they are talking about so my rest periods go too long.

I’ve been using classical and whatever genre Enya is. Basically just soothing noise that I don’t pay attention too.

Lately, I prefer softer Texas/Alt Country when A&A snatching as I feel it helps me better control my heartrate.

Here’s a couple pages from one of my playlists:

I saw The Hip twice at the New Orleans House of Blues. Incredible show, especially since it’s such a small venue. Gord, bless his awesome soul, was “all Gord” and they were on point!!
