Personally, I would like to keep the intensity and cut the volume if I want to lose bodyweight or focus on other things - my bodybuilder friends use that approach when they're cutting - still lifting heavy but in very moderate volume.
5 x 5 is okay but I prefer 3 x 3 more. Or 5x5 but with only the 2 last sets have challenging weight.
