Fasting

Day 3 in. The struggle came between 3 to 8 pm. Last night I couldn't fall into sleep until 4:30 am and slept about 3 hours. I had several short walks, totalling about 60 minutes.

@lizchangus, are you under a doctor's care? Given that you're reporting quite a bit in the way of struggles and symptoms - toothache, even - I think keeping your primary care physician abreast of your food intake plans would be prudent.

From my personal experience, if you have a problem with binge eating, fasting isn't right for you at this time. It might be right after you've learned to control your binge eating, just not right now. Extended fasting will not make you lose that much weight in one go, even IF won't do that. It works when it becomes a habit, as with all eating plans.

This sounds right to me, too. I'd consider seriously _not_ fasting for more than 24 hours until you have everything stabilized.

I used to be able to do 7 day fasting. But now I have been only doing 3 day fasting. Every time I hit 3 day, I begin to eat a large meal. After I eat, I regret and panic. It will take days of fasting for the weight I put on bacause of my eating to come off. What did you do when you almost want to cave in every time?

I suggest removing the regret and panic from your feelings. Eating is essential, view eating a feeding your body what it needs, not as something bad. Choose the foods you eat for this very same purpose, choose nourishing and healthy foods. Eating a big salad with a steak or piece of chicken shouldn't bring about feelings of guilt. @LoriLifts has a great diet, called the bowl diet. You fill up a bowl with greens, veggies and drop some meat in there and you are set to go. Sprinkle on some add-ons for taste and texture.

Fasting is great for weight loss but in no way the easiest way of losing weight. Fasting will have your weight vary a lot just because of water loss, making it hard to actually quantify the actual weight loss in the very short term. You have to look at it over a few weeks and months to actually quantify the actual weight loss.

I would suggest you find a healthy eating plan to go along with your fasting, and also focusing more of your energy on that eating plan than on the fasting. I've had great success with things like Paleo/Primal, simplified into: eat meat and veggies mostly (also eggs and fish), adding in some fruits and nuts in smaller quantities. I also had some legumes/beans and potatoes now and then, once or twice a week.

Also instead of caving into your craving for food, I suggest you eat at a planned time, choosing when you break your fast instead of falling prey to hunger. You will feel a lot more control and no regret by doing this.

Consulting with a Precision Nutrition coach or something similar might be a good idea also.

Starting day 2 of fasting. So I broke my last fasting with a large meal. All the negative feelings came out right after eating. Start all over again. For some reason, I cannot go further than 3 days. I hope this time I can go pass that day. I did couple of short walks, about 1 hour in total.

I have been trying to lose some weight. But my weight stay the same for almost 6 months. Every time I eat, my weight goes up and I have to do 3 day fasting to bring the weight down to the same.
fat loss is solely a function of caloric balance. It sounds like fasting isn’t helping you change that balance and is causing other issues. You might want to realign your strategy with your goals.

Longer fasting, eliminating binge eating, and resuming long walks can be the strategy.

Eating less and exercising more are all I can think of. What can be other options?
Stop thinking so big. You have to figure out what works best for you sustainably. It can be as simple as eating more veggies each meal. Or putting your fork down between each bite to slow down your eating.
Josh hillis is a good resource for these types of things.

Those are good points. I find it is easier not eating than having to putting down fork between each bite. Most of the time I start the meal with veggies.

I wish you good luck on your weight loss journey.

Like I said, there are other, much easier strategies than long fasts, I've used The Primal Blueprint which combines a Paleo-ish eating plan with basic exercise plan and some fasting. The base of it is also centered on the food quality. You should have a look at it.

I just didn't adhere to the no-grains part, I still have them occasionally, just not when I want to lose some fat.

When you say everytime I eat you gain weight, sure you do, you are retaining more water due to the carb intake and thats the weight you are loosing mostly during your fasts.

3 days fasting ain't a solution in the long term and I believe its not safe either, you will eventually get back to your old routine.

Peter Attia talks about it a lot on his podcast (Home - Peter Attia), he himself does a 3 days fast every month and intermitteng fasting daily (which I also do), you should listen to his podcasts are really really good.

I recommend a personalized diet done by a specialist according to your needs/goals with a good routine/workout and stick to it, the fastest way ain't always the better one.

To paraphrase David Whitley, if at first you don't succeed, come up with a better plan.

Meaning. if what you have been doing isn't working, no matter the effort and dedication you put in, try something else.

In his example he talked about a fly constantly banging on a window to get out of the house, it's putting in effort and dedication, but it doesn't have the right plan. DON'T BE THAT FLY. Find the open window to fly out.

Good luck.
