Did you find your strength in the 90s of limited value perhaps because it was all in isolation whereas S&S is linked strength - linked throughout the entire body?
Yes! Exactly That! Way to much isolation movements.
Chest and back, shoulders and arms, legs, abs, while trying to get strong on bodybuilding reps and sets.
I have to admit back then, I wanted to be big and muscular, and strong.
Now, Strong and fit, healthy, pain free, and maybe a little more muscle.
Linked strength! Yes.
