Kevin ClearyKevin is from Portland, Oregon. He developed a strong passion for fitness and athletics in high school, and has been pursuing it ever since. A competitive swimmer and coach, he discovered the world of the kettlebell in 2009 after becoming disgruntled with ineffective dryland training routines, and he not only broke through his plateaus using Pavel Tsatsouline's methods, but attained great success, both in the sport of swimming and in overall strength and conditioning.
His swimming career has taken him to 15 United States Masters Swimming National Championship meets, held across the United States and Puerto Rico, as well as the 2017 World Masters Games in Auckland, New Zealand.
Since achieving SFG I in Seattle in 2016, he has gone on to earn StrongFirst's Bodyweight (SFB) and Barbell (SFL), and SFG II certifications in 2018 (Portland), 2019 (Johannesburg), and 2020 (Chicago), respectively, and has assisted with many local StrongFirst user courses.
He applies these skills and knowledge to his positions as a Novice/Developmental/Senior coach for the Hillsboro HEAT swim team, Head Swim Coach at Hillsboro High School, and as a conditioning coach for the Hillsboro High School water polo program. He also teaches group and private swim lessons, and is a senior student at Instinct Defense Academy in Portland, where he has assisted teaching self-defense courses, and has made multiple trips to Japan to further enhance his skills and knowledge.
Having experienced what StrongFirst's training methods have to offer, he is eager to share these benefits with everyone from athletes to the everyday person looking to not only improve their health and fitness, but thrive!

Kevin taught me all I know about kettlebells and really drilled into me what true strength training looked like. He pushed me everyday to lift stronger while also ensuring I had proper technique and form. After joining Kevin’s swim squad I saw so much improvement and prepared me to continue my athletic career in college.

I am working with Kevin to learn basic kettlebell movements and highly recommend him as a personal trainer. He is very fun to work with, passionate about what he does, knowledgeable, and meticulous with his training. I left my session confident I could perform the exercises well and he gave me a routine to follow. I plan to use Kevin for all my kettlebell training and recommend him for others people interested in physical fitness.

I have watched Kevin put together fitness regimens for my spouse, who developed an avid interest in through hiking, but lacked the knowledge he needed to train. He is thoughtful and has a personal approach to fit his clients’ needs. Would highly recommend anyone interested in moving forward in overall well-being to reach out to Kevin.
