You can finally add me to the list. Wednesday I did Zercher squats with 135 for 10 reps and yesterday I did front squats with 135 for 10 reps. Monday I also did belt squats for 225 for 15 reps, but that really doesn’t feel like it should count.

I might be able to get into this, sort of.
Joined Planet Fitness since my wife and daughter already have memberships. Caveat, their HS smith machine is one of the slightly angled ones with a damper on it. The groove on it is a little strange and not sure if loading tracks 1:1 with a free barbell.

But, it IS a barbell.

I like the smith machine, don't really get the hate, it's actually a great piece. I'm not sure what to think of the angled ones. If I got one for myself I'd likely get one that goes vertically. I'd actually love one but I just don't have the room.

All that said, it is different from the free weight barbell.

I don’t have a real problem with the vertical ones. This one has dampers on it, which I can see being safer but not terribly welcome.

The angle pitch - makes DL really strange, induces a slight backward lean that takes emphasis off the hammies and shifts to erectors. Also not pulling from the floor since it stops a few inches short with 45s on it. But fits Good Mornings perfectly. Bench is fine, OHP is fine. Haven’t tested bent rows with it yet.

I suspect between the sluggish movement and the pitch it actually increases felt resistance per pound on some lifts. All in all is not bad for fitness.
