Repeat Until Strong.

@taro I am doing very extensive research of the old-time strongman dumbbell practice. History > theory > practice > history > theory... For time being, I do only relatively light technique practice throughout the day (usually around 25-30 kg dumbbell), 2-3 reps - swings, snatches, cleans, presses, bent presses. Some of the drills are very similar to what we do with the kettlebells, some of them quite different. More info coming soon, it is a part of a bigger project, and I am very excited about it.

Today's practice:

- 3x10 halos with 16, 3x5 SFG bridges, 3x5 goblet squats with 48
- 10x10 swings with 48
- 5x1 get-up 44

Today's picture: We at StrongFirst know. Of course. Back in the 1940s the answer was like ours today - YES, why do you ask in the first place?

As Pierce Brosnan said, “I’m one of those guys who believes that you need a strong woman in your life.”

My, how standards have changed.

Hello,

@Pavel Macek
Congratulations for your old time strongmen moves ! Black and white on the video gives a kind of "ancient" :)

Pretty sure your "project" will be extremely interesting. I am eager :)

Kind regards,

Nice video :)

Ok I'm waiting :)

Can you recommend a book that is generally available under old time strongman?

@taro Get Alan Calvert's Super-Strenght (1924) - that is a good start. Available in modern reprints, but I would suggest to buy and original on Ebay. I personally like my old books old.

Today's practice:

- 3x10 halos with 20, 3x5 SFG bridges, 3x5 goblet squats with 48
- 10x10 swings with 48
- 5x1 get-up 44

Last 2 days I was sore as hell, had a bad sleep, dunno why. Never mind, today's session was great, the rest payed off. Busy day tomorrow - TSC + StrongFirst Czechia Open Day. We have close to 40 people competing, so far our biggest TSC!

Today's photo: From Jowet’s The Key to Might and Muscle (1926).

I put my foot on the first step of the stairs leading to the floor Sinister!

Today's picture: Super rare photo - if you know the name of the famous old-time strongman, you win 100 swings with the Beast.

Check out what amazing picture I have found:

Charles A. Smith, The Foundations of Strength (early 1950s):

The “Get-Up”. This exercise, favourite of George Hackenschmidt, builds amazing all round strength.

The Two Hands Swing. Unequalled in co-ordinating the strength of back, thighs and shoulders. An exercise par excellence for strength of torso.

The One legged squat. Develops equal strength in each thigh and accustoms the exerciser to use concerted thigh and lower back power.

Today not easy.

Today's picture: Of course. No early specialisation though, GPP/GSP. Get the StrongFirst! Muscle Power, early 1950s.

Friday - 7 hours in a car, Saturday - 7 hours in the train on my way back. One of the fighters I train got a fight in Bellator MMA, on five days notice, so we went to Budapest, Hungary. TKO loss in the second round, bad beating - it did not work out this time, but he is a warrior, net time it will be better.

Today just stretching and easy lifting, tomorrow back to SAS. I think I have discovered another thing in the get-up that will help me tremendously, I have to test it tomorrow!

Last but not least, check out the video below!

@Thank you @Anna C . I am very happy with the Czech StrongFirst community! Onwards and upwards!

Today's picture: One-arm dumbbell swing - one of the drills I am researching. From Thomas Inch - Spalding’s Book on Boxing and Physical Culture.
