Hi there,
This is my first post in StrongFirst Forum. Back inthe day when I was hanging out with power lifters, they would often say that gaining strength has its limits to nutritional restrictions one puts themselves through. What that meant at the time was; If you eat too clean, you won't be...
Winter is a time for focus. I will apply the Russian Squat Routine to my deadlift training this season and my 5RM goal is to break the 300 lbs. barrier by Spring.
Current: 1RM is 280 lbs. (October 2018)
Background: 31 y/o, 5'10" 185 lbs. I've been on PTTP off and on for 2 years.
Goals...
So I've been GTG pistols and OAPU almost exclusively for just under 2 months while away from home and I thought id share my results.
Strength increases.
OAPU before 3-4 rep per side after 7-8. and I almost got a OAOL PU (if I spent some time with elevation I think it would come quick)...
If you could choose one exercise to develop strength with a kettlebell, what would it be and why?
I would lean towards the snatch due to the full body nature of it and specifically how it strengthens the grip, posterior chain, and shoulders. I know it’s a ballistic which isn’t ideal as a pure...
Excellent podcast with Firas Zahabi (coach of Georges St-Pierre). In the course of the podcast, they talk a fair amount about strength and conditioning as well as fight training and the threads of "easy strength" are pressed throughout. The ending is a little pedantic with weird philosophy talk...
hello,
I am someone who spent about 15 years pretty much full time on a computer, and despite biking a fair bit, had strength issues with my core, lower back, and upper back. This persisted until a few years ago when it caused physical issues with huge pain. Since then, I've picked up some...
Hey StrongFirst friends,
So I came across this study in my research for a presentation for class and at the last NSCA conference. Its a preliminary study looking at strength benefits of kettlebell training in comparison to barbell training, I'll post the study so you can look at the methods and...
Hi everyone,
Apologies if this has been covered elsewhere but I haven't seen it.
As someone who struggles to find a solid 60-90 minutes to train during the day, but who has multiple 10-20 minute slots throughout the day (irregular work hours), the "grease the groove" style of training is...
Hi everyone, new here but a long time fitness enthusiast. I have become more fascinated with Pavel's methods and want some advice modifying my routine.
I train at home and basically do a combination of calisthenics (pullups, dips, pushups, pistols, l sits, ab wheel rollouts, planks, etc.)...
What do you prefer to do between sets?
Passive or Active Rest ?
Passive : Do nothing, seat etc
Active : Walking, Stretching etc
During passive rest I lose my energy to training faster than in active.
What is the best option in your opinion ?
Can you explain why ?
What is your experience ?
Hello Community :)
I want to share with you my three simple ways to stay fresh for longer during Strength Training :)
1. Rolling/Massage Muscles between sets
2. Drink Water between sets
3. Ensure fresh air in the place where you practice
What you think about it ? Write below :)
Hello do you know What is the time range of hold isometric position for best gains in strength ?
What I mean ?
For example the best range of reps for:
Strength 1-5 reps
Muscle Growth (hypertrophy stimulus) 8-12 reps
But how it works on static position ?
I read that isometric exercises are good...
Whether a 50% of the maximum number of repeating is a 50% of maximum effort ?
It is about "GTG" method
I'm confused about something.
For example:
I tested my max in One arm push ups (legs together)
I got 4 reps in good form so I decided to do everyday a few sets of 2 reps (50% of max reps)...
Hey guys,
I've been absolutely loving the pistol since attending the SFB workshop about a month ago and have recently began a slightly altered training phase where my primary points of emphasis will be on the pisol & OAPU. Regarding the pistol, I really covet the skill and love the idea of...
Beyond things like "Simple", "Solid", "Sinister", "Beast Tamer", "Iron Maiden", and the SFG I & II technique standards, are there any more formalized strength standards for kettlebell exercises?
What comes to mind for me is something like these: Weightlifting Performance Standards for the...
I got a pair of 10 pound clubs to help build grip strength for the work I'm currently doing training for. It involves holding a large water hose for an hour or so at a time, a few times a day.. so some serious grip there..
the clubs looked like a good tool for grip (arguably the aspect I train...

Hey team, I just hit "Simple" yesterday and it went pretty darn well. Primarily because I spent so long practicing with 28kgs before a 32kg bell without a grip that tore my hands apart on the swings showed up that I was probably overdue to hit it. Anyway, I'm looking for what to do going...
