After getting my first set of plastic-covered cement weights from Target when I was 12, I was hooked on becoming stronger and learning new skills. Unfortunately, some misguided enthusiasm resulted in chronic back and shoulder injuries that sidelined my athletic career and limited my quality of life well into my 30s. I knew there must be a better way to use resistance and other forms of training to strengthen my body without re-injuring myself. Unknowingly, these injuries would be the catalyst to my quest: to learn as much as possible about how to help others perform at their best while living a healthy, balanced lifestyle.
My background includes 16 years of personal training, strength coaching, and presenting in private and clinical settings. Since "retiring" from the clinical rehabilitation setting in 2014, I built my gym Empowered Strength in Bend, OR to focus on getting people strong while moving well and living pain-free using StrongFirst principles. I am currently pursuing my SFB and SFL—Certifications through StrongFirst.
